Rev Alan Bain has been the Vicar of St Philip and St James Bath for the last 28 years. He trained and practiced in Civil Engineering before training for the Anglican ministry.
He describes St Philip's as “lay led” and encourages active participation of all its members. As a result, the church has developed a wide community ministry in its own area. Alan works closely with St Philip’s Primary Church of England School next door to the church.
Alan has also established links with many different countries regularly taking teams to visit them. Alan regularly travels in the Middle East and has recently taken groups to South Africa, India, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Israel and China.
Alan describes his own drive as “mission orientated” and passionately believes in the value of linking up with churches around the world. His drive is to communicate the unique message of Christianity wherever he is and by whatever means possible.
Alan also has wide media skills and presented BBC Radio Bristol’s ‘Sunday Starts’ programme for three years and Trans World Radio's “Good Morning UK” for two years. He has written for many national publications and is also Vice Chair of the Chrisitian HIV/AIDS Alliance.
